My husband Mark was a great fan of the godfather series. He couldn’t get enough out of watching the movie and every other sequel after. He didn’t seem to get enough of it, and it drove me insane at times. He had always told me that he wouldn’t mind having a retro birthday party one day. I would agree with him, but inside I was hoping that he would forget about the whole idea. This wasn’t the case though, because as his birthday got closer he found me on the laptop checking out adult birthday party ideas. He told me that I was wasting my time, and the best thing I could do for him was host a godfather themed party. I had no choice but to reluctantly agree with him. I convinced myself that the day was all about him, and not me.
Getting accustomed to the godfather theme was a little tough for me. It wasn’t easy getting information surrounding the theme over the internet. I even posted a question on one of the birthday blogs in order to capture an idea that would make the party memorable. The answer that helped me the most said that I focus the theme towards the 40s era. When I made the invitations, I was lucky to find empty bottles of coppolla wine at a vintage store. The details of the party were on a sticker, which I labeled the bottle with and had them delivered to the relevant guests. I also requested the guests to attend the party dressed in 40s style outfits.
I searched the stores for retro types of decorations for the party. I was happy when I found godfather posters which were huge. I hang them on the walls of the room. There were also film reels that I draped from the ceiling. I also chose to drape the walls with balloons and streamers that were colored black and gold. The banner outside the door was written “welcome to the godfather party.” The food table was also decorated with black and white food items. This included glasses filled with milk, cookies and other desserts that were decorated with dark and white chocolate. The foods were also labeled with quotes such as “take the cannoli” from the movie.
Food and Drinks
The food that the guests had a great time feasting on was mostly Italian themed. There was cheese garlic bread, lasagna, pasta with meatballs, Italian pizza and cannolis. The birthday cake was a tiramisu cake shaped like a godfather hat. A godfather theme party wouldn’t be the same without Italian Ice Cream too. The drinks consisted of various assortments of red and white wine. For the non-alcoholic guests they drunk lemon juice.
Games and Activities
The games that the guests enjoyed playing included monopoly and the mafia game. We also danced to some famous 40s tune and watched the first part of the godfather series.
The party favors included the sequel to the godfather movie, and a bottle of Sophia rose coppolla wine.
